CLEVELAND, Ohio – After years of cutting service at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, United Airlines is adding back some flights to the West Coast, as well as popular Florida destinations.
There are no new destinations included in today’s announcement, but frequent travelers to California will be happy to see that routes to Los Angeles and San Francisco have increased to twice a day, year-round.
In recent years, the airline has operated year-round, once-daily flights to both California cities, increasing service to twice daily during the summer. That summer schedule has been extended to year-round, according to the airline, with morning and evening departures from Cleveland.
Other additions include:
- A sixth daily flight to Houston, starting in late October.
- An increase in options to Orlando, at least during peak travel periods. The airline will add a second daily flight to Orlando for the busy holiday travel weeks of Dec. 19 through Jan. 6. United will also add a second Saturday flight to Orlando, starting Nov. 3.
- The airline will resume seasonal service to both Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers, starting Dec. 19 and running through April 28.
United Airlines closed its hub in Cleveland in 2014, and has dramatically reduced its destinations and passenger numbers since then. Even so, United remains the top carrier in Cleveland, with 25.4 percent of the market share in 2017, according to the airport.
