Care is in the air. Banana Republic gave some United Airlines passengers a big surprise on Tuesday, December 13, as part of their #BRMakeItMatter initiative. The brand gifted travelers flying to and from Newark, San Francisco and Los Angeles with cashmere blankets, not only to keep them warm — the pieces also serve as part of their mission to “make a difference with acts of comfort and kindness.”
Unsurprisingly, the passengers were thrilled at the present that also totes a special purpose. “It’s always nice getting a little surprise gift,” one tweeter wrote on December 13. “Thanks @united and @BananaRepublic made the 6 hr flight a lil better!”
Another tweeter thought that the gift was almost too good to be true. “#HappyFlier,” they posted that same morning. “AND and on early departure. Seriously now you are just spoiling me.” And you don’t have to be on the flight to get in on the benevolent action. “With each post/tweet/share using #BRMakeItMatter, Banana Republic will donate $1 to the CARE organization,” a December 13 release from the brand reads. “CARE is a partner of P.A.C.E. that supports providing working women with the foundational skills needed to advance personally and in the workplace. With #BRMakeItMatter, the brand hopes to donate upwards of $100,000.” The P.A.C.E. Program, launched by Gap Inc. in 2007, offers life skills classes to female garment workers that include a focus on communication skills, financial literacy, time management and more. According to the release, the program has benefited more than 45,000 women in 12 countries.
